How this review was made: Research-based. Features, limits and prices come from HubSpot’s official free CRM page, checked as of Oct 2026. We haven’t run a months-long hands-on test, and we don’t use star ratings.

Verdict

Who it’s for: solo operators and two-person businesses that are outgrowing a spreadsheet and want to see every lead, deal and email in one place, for free.

Who should skip it: teams that need more than two seats, or anyone with a list well above 1,000 contacts who doesn’t want per-seat pricing.

HubSpot’s free CRM is unusually complete for a $0 product. The limits are clear: two users and 1,000 contacts. For a solopreneur that covers a lot, and you can upgrade later without moving your data.

What the free CRM includes

According to HubSpot’s free CRM page, the free plan includes:

Core CRM

  • Contact management: create contacts, log activities, view communication history
  • CRM import from another tool
  • Deals and pipeline management with a visual deal board
  • Tasks and activities
  • A reporting dashboard

Sales tools

  • Email tracking and notifications when prospects open your emails
  • Email templates and scheduling
  • Meeting scheduler that syncs with your calendar
  • Document sharing and sales quotes
  • Payment links

Marketing and service tools

  • Form builder and landing page builder
  • Email marketing and an AI email writer
  • Live chat and a chatbot builder
  • Ticketing and a shared inbox
  • Ad management for Google and social campaigns

AI and integrations

  • Breeze Assistant, which HubSpot says can research companies, prep for calls and summarise CRM records
  • An AI content writer
  • Access to the HubSpot Marketplace, which HubSpot says has 2,000+ integrations
  • iOS and Android mobile apps

The limits that matter

HubSpot’s FAQ states the free CRM supports up to two users and 1,000 contacts, with “no limits on customer data” and “no expiration date”. It’s not a trial.

Two other limits to keep in mind:

  • Branding. Removing HubSpot branding is listed as a Starter feature.
  • Feature depth. Many free tools (forms, email marketing, chatbots) have caps that rise on paid tiers. HubSpot points to its pricing page for detailed limits, so check there for the tool you rely on most.
PlanStarting priceKey additions
Free$0Contacts, deal pipelines, import, Breeze Assistant, dashboards
Starter$15/mo per seat*Required fields, permission sets, multiple currencies, no HubSpot branding
Professional$50/mo per seatAI customer agent, duplicate management, contact scoring, calculated properties, custom reporting
Enterprise$75/mo per seatCustom objects, team organisation, SSO, field-level permissions

*HubSpot notes that the Starter discount applies to new customers only, has no set end date and can be discontinued at any time.

These are the CRM (Smart CRM) seat prices on HubSpot’s free CRM page. HubSpot sells marketing, sales and service hubs separately, so the full cost depends on which hubs you add.

How a solopreneur might actually use it

  1. Import your spreadsheet of leads and clients.
  2. Set up one deal pipeline, for example Inquiry → Proposal sent → Won/Lost.
  3. Connect your email so messages are logged and tracked.
  4. Add a HubSpot form to your website to capture leads straight into the CRM. If you don’t have a site yet, see best website builders for small business.
  5. Share a meeting link so prospects book calls without back-and-forth.
  6. Check the dashboard weekly to see what’s stuck.

HubSpot vs a dedicated email marketing tool

HubSpot’s free plan includes email marketing, but if newsletters are your main channel, a dedicated tool may give you more sending room for less. Compare MailerLite, Kit, Mailchimp and Brevo in our best email marketing tools guide. Many solopreneurs use a free CRM for deals and a separate tool for newsletters.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Genuinely free, with no time limit
  • A lot of sales, marketing and service tooling for $0
  • One upgrade path, with no data migration when you grow

Cons

  • Two users and 1,000 contacts on Free
  • HubSpot branding until Starter
  • Per-seat pricing and separate hubs can make the paid path complex
